Recap | Deep Dive into Queer Cinema Translation

The eighth screening day of ShPFF opened with four short films from the Chinese Short Film Awards, The Best Choirs in China, In the Silence, The Last Lesbian, and What is Love?.

After the screening, the main character of The Best Choirs in China, Peter, who is conductor of the Shanghai Hyperbolic Singers; the director of The Last Lesbian, Liu Jingyu; the director of In the Silence, Zhao Xuetong; the director of What is Love?, Zhao Yuanhao came to meet the audience.

Peter briefly introduced the establishment of Shanghai Hyperbolic Singers, Jingyu and Xuetong mentioned the unique perspectives and design of their films, while Yuanhao introduced his “Two Men” artwork series.

This year, we are excited to host a special presentation and discussion with Dr. Benedict Morrison, Dr. Jonathan Evans, and Dr. Guo Ting about “Translating Anglophone Queer Cinema into Chinese: Imagination, Identification and Representation”.

We also invited key members of QAFOne and Jihua for an interesting workshop. They shared the founding stories of their organizations and their views on the development of LGBTQ films.
