ShanghaiPRIDE at Disney Pride

ShanghaiPRIDE representatives were invited to share the community’s efforts and leaders’ personal stories at “Disney Pride: Defining LGBT & Ally,” organized by Disney Pride China, on Dec. 6.

As the world’s leading storyteller, Disney believes everyone has a story that matters. This edition of the Diversity & Inclusion Speaker Series gave Disney employees a window into efforts by Disney Pride and ShanghaiPRIDE to foster open environments where LGBT individuals and allies feel safe and supported.

ShanghaiPRIDE was honored to present the organization’s mission and share individual stories with the audience. Partnerships between businesses and community organizations like ShanghaiPRIDE are crucial to the creation of workplaces where everyone is equal. An accepting work environment benefits the employer as well, as it encourages employees to be themselves and reach their full potential.

We are thrilled that Disney has its own Pride initiative that has been active for several years in cities around the world. Attendees of the Dec. 6 event agreed that efforts like Disney Pride are important for helping to increase LGBTQ visibility in China.
There are many avenues for collaboration between Disney Pride and the Shanghai LGBTQ community that we can explore together in the future. With 2018 fast approaching — and with it, the first-ever nationwide CnPRIDE — we need corporations like Disney to join our journey.
