Red Ribbon Gala Dinner

SHANGHAI – This year’s Red Ribbon Gala Dinner hosted by ShanghaiPRIDE, Q-Events, and Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai on World AIDS Day raised a total of CNY 82,580 for Shanghai Qingai Health Center.

The beneficiary is a charity organization established by young adults to serve the youth community. HIV infection is on the rise among college students; Shanghai Qingai Health Center educates youth groups to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections and diseases (STIs/STDs), including HIV/AIDS, and helps those living with HIV improve their quality of life. Funds raised will support HIV prevention projects on school campuses and public anti-discrimination events.

Red Ribbon Gala Dinner Calls for Support

SHANGHAI – ShanghaiPRIDE, Q-Events and Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai held a press conference last Friday to officially launch the 2017 Red Ribbon Gala Dinner campaign, which will benefit Shanghai Qingai Health Center.

In conjunction with World AIDS Day on Friday 1-December, the campaign aims to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and promote anti-discrimination and de-stigmatization towards those affected. There will be a cocktail reception, four-course dinner, performances, raffles draw, and silent auction. Individual tickets are priced at ¥1080 and a table of ten at ¥9,800. Tickets are open for sale and organizers would like to invite businesses, individuals, and media partners to unite for this cause.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Center For Disease Control & Prevention (Shanghai CDC), there were 1,959 reports of HIV infection in Shanghai from 1st January, 2016 to 20th November, 2016, and more than 20% are between ages 18 and 24, an 80% increase year-on-year. Nationwide, there are more than 570,000 people living with HIV/AIDS as at October 2015. Of that number, 9,152 are youths aged between 15 and 24.

The ninth annual ShanghaiPRIDE festival on June 15-18 with auxiliary events in March, April, and throughout May and June brought together over 6,000 attendees under the theme “The Time is Now,” with a series of cultural, social, and educational events inspiring the community to love fearlessly, live openly, and promote acceptance and equality. This year’s festival also set the stage for next year’s groundbreaking national CnPRIDE, which will launch Pride festivities across the country.
