8:30PM FILM SCREENING
Basement of 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Xi Lu
We carve our niche between a rock and a hard place, squeeze sequinned down supermarket aisles and cruise on public transport. This special edition of CINEMQ celebrates queered spaces in every form. From clubs to cruising grounds, collectives to communities…sites cut with glitter, with tears, with blood. In the absence of a home, we take shelter where we can.
We’ll be saying farewell to The Shelter, one of Shanghai’s oldest alternate and queer-friendly spaces. The night will also raise funds in support of an appeal for safe housing for two transgender women in Beijing.
CINEMQ is a queer short film screening + party series. It is run by a group of queers with too much on their mind to sit still for long. They pull together the filthy and gorgeous of queer world cinema once a month, an eclectic mixtape of short films, visuals and music. Walls are our screens. Rooftops and basements are our cinemas. Queer is our purpose.
