DEAR MOM & DAD – SPECIAL SCREENING

“Coming out” remains one of the biggest challenges among the LGBTQ community. Closet doors were opened and closed in schools, workplaces, within families and the society. Family members are the closest to us, many children are insecure and lost when dealing with relationship with their love ones. We hear of loving, helpless, exciting and broken-hearted stories, they are presented in films that touches many of us.

On 19-Nov 3PM, ShanghaiPRIDE with The Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai and PFLAG China will co-host “Dear Mom & Dad”, a special film screening of short films from The Netherlands and China about coming out.

The Dutch gay choir Vox Rosa is working on a show about the complicated bond between mother and son. The members of the choir belong to a generation of gay men who grew up in a time in which their mothers’ approval often wasn’t so easily given. The pressure this puts on the relationship between a mother and her son is an experience which, apart from singing together, binds the choir together tightly. Mama can you hear me is a documentary about motherly love, letting go and acceptance.

Pink Dads
