Red Ribbon Gala Dinner to Create Awareness on HIV/AIDS Among Youths

SHANGHAI – ShanghaiPRIDE, Q-Events and Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai held a press conference yesterday afternoon to officially launch the Red Ribbon Gala Dinner campaign, which will benefit Shanghai Qingai Health Center.

In conjunction with World AIDS Day on December 1st, the event aims to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and promote anti-discrimination and de-stigmatization towards those infected. There will be a cocktail reception, four-course dinner, performances, raffles draw, and silent auction. Individual tickets are priced at ¥900 each and a table of ten is at ¥8,000. Tickets are open for sale and organizers would like to invite partners from corporate, media, and health communities to join together and make a greater impact on the cause.

Organizer of ShanghaiPRIDE, Raymond Phang, says the gala and the real positive impact are fruits of a community effort and hopes everyone can pass the word along and make a change together.

HIV/AIDS amongst youths has become a grave matter as the rate of infection has been increasing every year. Many youths are afraid to be tested or do not know where to find help if infected. Those who are infected have almost no social and financial future as they are being discriminated or shunned. “The society is obligated to guide the youth to have a better knowledge of safe sex as a way to protect themselves,” said Bo Jiaqing, Director of Shanghai Qingai Health Center. Funds raised through the gala will be used to promote prevention efforts in student groups and to help the general public understand more about HIV/AIDS.

“Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai is committed to raising public awareness on social inclusion of charity programs and has consistently supported a spectrum of initiatives and activities, because helping others can be an inspiring experience to us,” said Robert Hamer, General Manager of Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai. “We trust that the Red Ribbon Gala Dinner will be a great contribution to the growing awareness of the need of further HIV research and support in China.”
