ShPFF Short Film Competition Winners

ShanghaiPRIDE Film Festival was enormously proud to host our 2nd Short Film Competition this year. The competition recognizes films that tell stories of Chinese LGBTQ experience (Chinese is taken as either national, cultural or ethnic identity). We received submissions from across the country and around the world, with 20 screened during the festival, many as world premieres. Winners were announced on Opening Night, June 19th . They are:

BEST FILM – judged by Hong Khaou (BAFTA nominated director of Lilting)
Yu & Rachel – Wu Ji En

BEST SCREENPLAY – judged by Quentin Lee (director of Ethan Mao)
Heart Station – Jia Tao

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY – judged by Kit Hung (Teddy nominated director of Soundless Wind Chime)
Yu & Rachel – Xiao Yi Fan

BEST SOUND & MUSIC – judged by Erica Lee (musician)
Yu & Rachel – Min Xiao Yi

BEST EDITING – judged by Jiangang Wei (founder & director of Queer Comrades)
Seeing Through the Eyes of Crocodiles – Shen Lian Fang

Our Best Film winner will go on to compete at our partner Iris Prize, a British queer shorts festival with a top prize of £30,000 towards the filmmaker’s future projects.

Our competition films screened alongside three special programs of short films from Asia, presented in cooperation with Aks Film+Dialogue Festival (Pakistan) &Proud (Myanmar) and Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance (APQFFA). All short films were eligible for the Audience Choice Award, voted for by audience at ShPFF 2016. It gives us great pleasure to announce the winner is:
