ShanghaiPRIDE Unveils Plans for Art & Photo Exhibition

Shanghai, May 17, 2015 – This year’s ShanghaiPRIDE Art & Photo Exhibition promises to be bigger and better than ever, with six featured artists presenting creations inspired by their experiences in Shanghai and the Pride7 theme, “Love is Our Future.” The exhibition will run throughout Pride week, June 12th-21st, and features photography by Moggy Chang, Bin Hu and Scotty So as well as paintings by James Jarvis and Gabriel Munguia. This year’s exhibition also won great support and sponsorship by an Italian restaurant- Garden Restaurant & Bar.

The art exhibition will contribute to ShanghaiPRIDE’s aim of promoting awareness, tolerance and acceptance with artwork that exemplifies the theme of this year’s festival, “Love is Our Future (爱予未来 ai yu weilai).” Among them, Moggy Chang’s photography uses double exposure techniques to capture poignant scenes of women and lesbian couples in Shanghai, while Gabriel Munguia’s touching human figurative series documents his personal relationship with his partner.

Other works – like James Jarvis’ celebration and reclamation of contemporary gay culture through the style of historical Chinese posters and Scotty So’s photo series depicting the self-love of a boy “growing in his gay and fabulous life” – present a fascinating exploration of past and future. All of the acclaimed artists featured in the exhibition are generously contributing their work on a volunteer basis for use in this year’s Pride festival. Bin Hu shows the culture and nature through a series of black and white photography called ‘Midgard · Paradise’.
